Poems by Stan Swanson
Stan Swanson has written dozens and
dozens of poems over the years. In high school he even won a
Literary Yearbook award for one of his poems. His poetry ranges from
good, old-fashioned love poems to poems for kids. Following are a
couple of his poems for the younger age group.
MY LITTLE BOAT
I love to float my
little boat,
I have this
fantasy.
If I could shrink
a little bit,
Then I could go to
sea.
I’d sail across
the bath tub wide,
Through typhoon,
wind and rain.
And hope that Mom
don’t pull the plug,
And wash me down
the drain.
A LITTLE BIT OF
MATH
One is few
And ten is plenty.
Double it
And you have
twenty.
Take this by half
And ten’s still
many.
Subtract the same
You don’t have
any.
COUNTING SHEEP
All my friends
They fall asleep,
Counting lambs
And counting
sheep.
I think that
Is really boring.
So I’m counting
Lions roaring!
SICK OF SCHOOL
I’m feeling sick,
I’m feeling achy
Can’t you hear me
wheeze?
I’m feeling
sneezy, sort of queasy,
Mommy help me
please!
I’m feeling sick,
I’m feeling woozy,
Can’t you hear me
cough?
I’m feeling funny,
nose is runny,
Someone turn it
off!
JAKE THE SNAKE
Jake the Snake
lived in a tree.
He didn’t have a
home you see.
He tried to buy a
house downtown,
Nobody wanted him
around.
He tried to rent a
city place,
They said, “oh,
no” right to his face!
“Get out of town,
get on the bus.
You can’t stay
here, you’re not like us!
You’re not like
us, you won’t fit in;
Don’t try to move
in here again!”
So Jake the Snake
lived in a tree,
He wasn’t just
like you or me.
